credit card application/income?

credit card application
nbts1582 asked:

I don’t have a credit card, but I really need one just to purchase plane tickets and other things I buy online and build credit. By the way, I’m over 25 and I have been paying my student loan on time each month for almost 5 years. I think I have fair/good credit. I am between jobs right now. I know that sounds bad, but I’ll be starting a new job in June. What should I put for my income on the application. Should I put my income last year or for my next job. Should I mark unemployed?

your next job isn’t fact yet, i wouldn’t use it. you can open a paypal account using your checking account and link it w/ a debit card which is a mastercard for such purchases, no credit needed, and you only buy what you actually have money for w/o going into debt. your checking account may have a similar card w/ a visa/mc number.
as for unemployed now, if you’re collecting unemployment w/ job attached, you can still show income and use your last job as it is what the income you’re presently receiving is based on as well.

Well, I’m really not sure what you should put on your application. But here is a site where you can compare bank card rates based on credit type or credit card type. To choose a card, go to, choose the Credit Cards tab. Under “Compare Credit Card Rates, click on Select by Credit Type . On the right, choose the Credit Card Type – Secured Card – and compare the cards to see which is best for you. If you have bad credit, switch Credit Card Type to Credit Type. Or perhaps a Student Card might work for you.

There is a Calculators button on the blue line above the tabs. From there you can play around with balances and how much interest you would pay if you charge a lot but only pay the minimum when you get an unsecured card.

You can go to and click on Credit Education. Great info there. I would also suggest you go the the Forums page and ask or search for a similar question there.

You are entitled by law to a free credit report once a year from EACH of the three major credit bureaus. I recommend you check each bureau once a year, a different one every four months. The only site to get a totally free credit report is. Make sure everything is correct. Your FICO score is not free, however.
