Does a bank inquire into your credit report when you apply for a secured credit card?

credit card apply
paristoys asked:

I don’t want an inquiry to go on my credit report if I get a secured credit card. So I am hoping that the bank that I apply at will not look up my credit report, leaving an inquiry on there.

9 times out of ten they will check your credit either way.

If they ask for your social security no they will check your credit.

This secured card does not, and it builds your credit history:

You can always delete inquiries just as easy as they were placed by using this pretyped letter…

Some still pull a credit report but some don’t. A better way to do it is to ask the credit manager at the bank ahead of time. Or open a savings account and collateralize it. Make payments on the secured loan on time with the bank, later you go back and get a secured credit card. Credit Unions are good for this type of situation.
