If a parent does co-sign for you, be responsible and do not trash their credit. My dad co-signed my first credit card (over 35 years ago) and I still have it today (under a different bank name due to mergers). Even if you get a secured card, you will still have to wait till youre 21 for it to turn into a credit card. And secured cards carry annual fees. Get your mom to co-sign on a card for you. Any card will do, as long as it does not charge an annual fee. And don't worry about APR, if you pay in full you won't ever pay a penny interest. The way to top 800+ scores is to pay in full each month.
