New rules being passed by the federal government in January 2010 is going to make it impossible for anyone under 21 to get a credit card.
You will need a co-signer if you don’t have a long job history with good pay and a long standing checking account.
Go to your bank where you have your checking account (a must if you want a credit card), and ask them for a secured card.
This card, with good usage, turns into a credit card in as little as 6 months.
Pay in full for what you use each month.
Use it unwisely, run up a balance, and it could take 2 years.
IF you have had a job for a long time, and a checking account for over a year, start by applying to store cards or gas cards – easiest to get.

You need to think Secured Credit Card. Just do a Yahoo Search for “Secured Visa” or “Secured Mastercard.”
A secured card is one in which you give them a deposit, say $300. That becomes your credit limit. You then make charges and payments like any normal credit card. After 6 months or 1 year of handling this card well, the bank will usually convert it to a normal credit card and refund the deposit.
Get a credit card from local bank and pay it in time. You also can use this service to avoid common mistakes while buiding credit and pre-estimate future scores for different scenarios of payments – credit-report-free.totalh.com
