In Texas can an employer garnish 10% from tips to pay for credit card processing fee’s? thanks?

1. The employer is not required to pay the credit card processing fees. So if someone leaves the tip on a credit card, the fee can be deducted.

   The fee, however, needs to be reasonable. I doubt the merchant is paying 10% to accept Visa.

3. A high fee is 4% your employer is scamming you right in your face. How the hell does he know how much tips you make anyway silly?

4. I never heard of that in Texas.

   It’s against the law to charge a “customer” extra for credit card fees.

   I’m not sure about the rates at present, but they don’t charge 10%.

   15 years ago, in my business, it was 1.5- 3.5 %.
   If he just charged the fee % off your tips, that would still be less than 5%.
   Businesses charge those off as an expense of doing business. Their markup includes that expense.
   Your employer is taking it from you and still deducting as an expense.
