Yes, it is safe to use your credit card for online shopping, but only if you know how to verify the authenticity of a website. To make sure the website you make your purchase on is genuine, check for the picture of a little lock in the upper right hand corner of the screen window. This security lock means the website is not a fraud. Another thing you must check for is the URL. It should read "https://" instead of "http://", meaning the site is secure with the "s". The last thing to check for is the certificate of security. This can be found by clicking 'File' and then clicking on 'Properties'. You should see the word certificate somewhere and click on it. Remember to check for the date of expiration, also. Almost all sites should have that little picture of the lock. However, the security certificate is more reliable. I also advise you to watch out for site shopping such as eBay, which turns out to be the most risky. Many reported to have been stripped of their identity through the schemes of internet frauds. If you are shopping on such a site, keep in mind to check ALL of the seller's reviews and I advise you not to take the risk of buying if there is even one bad review, which should be reasonable. Overall, I highly detest this type of site shopping; it's safer to stick with corporate sites. I hope all your online shopping is secure.

I am the type of person who does not trust anyone with my personal information (i.e. credit card, social security, i.d. code). So...my best advice is: if what you are shopping for on the Internet is also something you can find in any store, purchase the item at a store rather than on the Internet. If obtaining your desired gift is not possible through a store, investigate the website on its reliability. It really comes down to luck when giving others your personal information.

It is if the site/page is secure. Usually there will be a small gold/yellow lock symbol either on the browser address bar, or on the bottom right on the browser. Almost all big websites (BestBuy.com, Walmart.com, etc.) is always secure. If you're buying from a private/small business, or whatever, PayPal is the best way to pay online.
