Is there a way to stop pre-approved credit card applications through mail?

credit card application
Gentleman. asked:

Just like the Do Not Call website & toll free numbers for solicitators by phone, are there websites or toll free numbers to stop pre-approved credit card applications through postal mail?

Simple. On the actual application is an area to call. If you wantto find out who is selling your name, change you name slightly by middle name or initial first, or mispelling. If you get pre-approved credit card applications in the mail again call those companies who sold your name and tell them don’t do it again or you will seek legal action. They will spread the word.

    Try this:

Also, contact each of the major credit reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax, TransUnion) and request an opt-out of their lists, since they are the ones that usually report you as “eligible for credit” to credit providers.

Also, make sure you get your free credit report. You’re allowed 1 per year that is required by U.S. law without strings attached. More here:

Note: don’t try getting a free credit report from any other source, as it is a common way of committing identity theft. This is the only verified guaranteed source.

Important note: the suggestion that “Mikey” left above to change your name is technically credit fraud, which is a federal offense. That’s playing with fire if you try that method, since it would be up to the credit agency whether or not to pursue legal action against you for the fraud.
