What happens to someone who uses someone elses credit card online?

This guy in my college class got on a website where someone had put their credit card number up on the internet (stupid i know) and then he went to walmart.com or somewhere like that and bought something with it. What can happen to him?? Jail?? Charges?? Just wondering…

    depends on the value of the charge and the state you’re in for the severity of the charges. Sorry, can’t be more specific, they’re all different. Card owner (after they get their head out of their ass, who posts their cc number on the Internet??) has to report an unauthorized charge to the CC company, they take it from there.

    Usually nothing happens if it’s a small charge, they just take it off the bill.

    If the person that owns the credit card was really the one who posted their number on a website, they will be held liable for all charges made to their card, in most states. The person buying things with the number can be facing different charges, including fraud, if ever found and convicted.

    First he will have a criminal record making it hard to get a better job in the future.

    But he will have at least a fine and perhpas jail or prsion time, plus having to pay back all the money he used.

    But with only the number it would be very hard to use it anywhere but on line, since normally places like warlmart require the actual card.

    He can probably be charged with Credit Card abuse, or Identity Theft……depending on the total circumstances of the offense…..of course, in the defense of your friend, you could possibly argue the doof who put up the credit card in a public forum did so knowingly and therefore provided implied consent to use the card…….good luck…..
