Until you have a track record you probably will have to get a prepaid card. But when you do be sure that they report to the bureaus, a lot of them don’t and if they don’t it won’t help you build credit. To start mine I applied for a credit card through my bank. That was bank of america. I got approved with a low limit but it worked.

My husband had bad credit and the only one he got approved was from Orchard card. It is high in interest but it was the only chance he had to establish credit. Then later he applied for another card then transfer. (Orcard is good for temporary but not permanent. Hope it helps.

Try First Premier Bank or Orchard Bank. They both have no credit unsecured credit card programs.

A card with your credit union or bank is a great place to start.

Having no credit is not the same as having bad credit, but it is still a problem.

You have a couple of options open to you. Orchard Bank offers cards to people either wanting to build or rebuild their credit. Another option woud be to check where you do you banking to see if secured credit cards are offered. Some of the major banks like Citi, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and USBank all offer them. You can think of this as building credit with a savings account because that’s how they basically work. You put a deposit that’s usually tied to a savings account as collateral to establish a line of credit. You can increase the credit line by adding to the deposit which also gains interest like a savings account while you’re building credit. Usually anwhere between 9-18 months of paying on time and keeping the balance low (around 25% of your available credit) the card either converts to a regular one, or a better card’s offered and you get the deposit you started the account with back with interest. Usually more card offers come after you’ve built credit with your first card. I went ahead and posted links to Orchard Bank and some secured credit card websites as well.

I think the best way to establish good credit is to start with a secured credit card. After 6-8 months, you can apply for non secured credit cards. I established mine that way.
