What is the best credit card to buy?

best credit card
Aaron S asked:

I am looking to apply for my first credit card and not sure which one would be best for me. I am not going to use it all of the time, just purchases here and there to build up my credit. Does anyone have any suggestions? Your help is appreciated, thank you.

It depends alot on your credit. Here is a site that lists many different types of cards from no or bad credit cards to rewards and balance transfer cards.

You may not need a secured card. and just apply for one under the “no credit” section. My first credit card was though Bank of America and it had a 3400 limit.

There are many credit cards available to people with poor / no credit. Orchard Bank and First Premier are two of the most popular issuers. You’ll also have to decide between ‘secured’ and ‘unsecured’. Since you won’t pay a security deposit with an unsecured credit card, I would try that first.

try capital one or citi bank first.

If it does not work, then get a secured credit card from your bank to start with. (or try HSBC/Orchard Bank Mastercard).

The best way to build your credit is to funnel your normal spending (i.e. what you’d buy anyway because it’s a necessity) through your credit card(s) and pay off your balance in full every month. If you’re using that strategy, then you might as well funnel your spending through a rewards credit card to earn rewards.

I know a lot of people find that the American Express Blue Cash is good for them.

However, you can use this rewards calculator to find which credit card will pay you the most in rewards for your normal spending profile:
