Which would be best, a Prepaid Credit Card or a Normal one?

credit card services
The FFX Blitz ™ asked:

I’ve never had a credit card, nor do I need credit card services, but I have to have one in order to buy a Notebook off of Dell.com, and since I want one customized, I can’t go to Walmart or any other retail store. I’ve heard about these prepaid credit cards, of which requires no contracts…..would that be a good choice?

A regular credit card. It helps build your credit.

Stay Away From Regular Credit Cards, at all Cost; You lose The “Value” of Your Money…!!

If you feel that you are responsible enough to apply for a Credit Card then do so. They normally come with a steep APR and annual fees. Try to find one that will fit your needs. But if you feel your not ready for a credit card than prepaid is the way to go…Credit cards also build your credit … good luck

I have 4 credit cards. I use each one maybe once a month to maintain some activity. They are used for small purchases (like gas) and I pay the balance off in full every month on whichever one(s) I use.

If you need a credit card, contact your bank about a secured card. Bank of America offers one. If you maintain it in good standing, the card may eventually be changed to unsecured and it will also help you build credit. Those prepaid cards do nothing to help you in that respect.

Just a warning though…if you choose to go for a secured card, choose a reputable bank (such as BOA or Wells Fargo) and not one of those fly-by-night internet banks.

I’d go with the pre-paid since you don’t have to worry about the interests every month and you don’t have to worry about the huge fines, either.

Hi – i actually did a lot of research on these cards. The Bank Freedom prepaid debit card is by far the best. They have the lowest fees and have a free activation. You can use direct deposit and they waive their monthly fee – so in effect the card is free. go to for more details.

    Hope this helps. RC
