  1. Huh?

If you buy from a reputable company then there is little risk. If you don’t know the company then you might want to be more careful. Use a credit card not a debit card for increased protection (it’s easier to contest a charge).

  2. Sparkles on my Scissors

    Here are 4 ideas:

Some companies will have an option that allows you to call to complete the transaction – that is, the transaction is complete except you call in to give your credit card number.

You can contact your credit card company and get a temporary account number. The number bills to your regular credit card, but it is only good for a limited amount of time and with only the one vendor. So, say you wanted to buy from Land’s End: you get a temporary number and place your order with that number. The charge shows up on your regular credit card. You can then call the credit card company a day later and cancel the temporary number or allow it to expire on its own (my temp numbers are good for a year with each vendor). A number used at Land’s End could not be used at Proactive.

My sister has a separate credit card that has a very low credit limit and this is only for ordering on the internet.

Some companies allow you to order using Paypal. Paypal will keep your credit card information and pay the vendor rather than you giving your number to each vendor.
